Lillywhite Education Center

Purpose: Patrice Kisembe has set up this Primary School for orphans in the small rural town of Ndivisi. Those attending the school have lost either one or both of their parents (most likely to AIDS). Operating on minimal funds, the school currently teaches over 100 students, some who are refugees from recent political unrest in Kenya, and many whom can not afford to buy uniforms to go to public schools. The school hopes to become self-sufficient and grow crops to feed the students that board there.
How it is now:

Fred Johnson (current President of All One People) visited the Lillywhite Education Center (LEC) in late 2005 and in 2007. Here are some of the things Fred and his wife noted while visiting there:

  • An administration determined to assist orphans with little resources to support them. Yet they are determined.
  • Education being offered with little to no materials or books.
  • Children must spend much of their day watering and weeding crops for their food and market goods
  • There is not enough money to finish a much needed building.
  • The children have inadequate clothing
  • Feeding the children is often a problems and food is in short supply.
  • The attitude of the administration is upbeat and determined
  • The children seem happy and hopeful
Future of the Lillywhite Education Center: Through long distance communication All One People is currently working on the following projects for the LEC:
  • Continue to provide high school tuition for 18 students
  • Acquire desks and chairs for students to use in classrooms
  • Build a new classroom building with five classrooms
  • Construct a kitchen and dining area
  • Drip irrigation system and greenhouse to provide food for students and a marketable crop to increase cash flow into the school
  • Acquire Kenyan curriculum materials for grades 1-8
